On July 16 and July 23, 2025, the Chinese Language Center at Tunghai University hosted two special cultural classes centered on the traditional art of Beijing Opera, offering international students a valuable opportunity to explore this important aspect of Taiwanese heritage.

We were honored to welcome Ms. Chang Yu-Hua, Director of the Guoguang Opera Company, along with renowned performers Lin Ting-Yu, Liu Yu-Chih, and Lee Jia-De, who graciously joined us on campus. Through in-depth explanations and live demonstrations, they introduced the core values of OMIT (Opera Made In Taiwan) and showcased the creative integration of traditional opera with modern technology.

During the sessions, students not only observed the refined vocal techniques and stylized body movements of Beijing Opera but also participated in hands-on activities to experience its unique physical expression. From learning about role types and facial makeup to trying out basic movements, students gained a deeper appreciation of how music, dance, and drama come together in this centuries-old art form.

We sincerely thank the Guoguang Opera Company for their insightful presentations and generous sharing, which allowed our students to connect more closely with Taiwan’s rich cultural traditions and experience the living beauty of classical Chinese opera.
