Following the positive response from our previous visit with American high school students, this time we returned to the Tunghai Food and Agriculture Base —but now with university students from De La Salle University in the Philippines!

Unlike our rushed visit last time, we spent the whole day at the base on this trip. During our stay, we cooked and shared a meal using local, seasonal Taiwanese ingredients, made resilient seed balls by hand , and wove with shell ginger leaves.

This kind of experience—getting close to nature in the midst of the city and reconnecting with the land—is a way for students to slow down from the fast-paced world, return to simplicity, and deepen their connection with nature and themselves.

We’ve always believed that when we talk about Taiwanese culture, it’s not just about art or politics and economics—it’s also about how local people make wise use of the land, engage in dialogue with it, and work to preserve it .
