The Centre was established in 1970, and has seen eleven directors during that time: Fang Shi-Duo方師鐸 1970-1982, Feng Yi-Jian馮以堅 1982~1997, Jian Liang-Yu簡良育 1997~2004, Ni Zai-Qin倪再沁 2004~2005), Chen Jun-Qi陳俊啟 2005~2007, and Chou Shi-Zhen周世箴 2007~2010, Liao Min-Hsun廖敏旬 2010~2013, Chen Jung-Han 陳中漢 2013~2018),Lin Chia-Hui林嘉惠 2018~2019), Liu Mei-Hui (劉美惠 2019~2021), Liao Min-Hsun (廖敏旬 2021~2022), Lu I-Jung(呂依蓉 2022~).

Renovated the CLC website, especially adding the feature of online application for admission and the online survey platform.
The Chinese Language Center came under the authority of the Office of International Education & Program.

Collaborated with the Steering Committee for the Test of Proficiency SC-TOP to enable students to take mock tests for the listening and reading parts of the Test of Chinese for Foreign Language TOCFL at the CLC.
Amended the Regulations of Installation for the Chinese Language Center, College of Arts, Tunghai University.
Amended the Part-Time Faculty Hiring Regulations for the Chinese Language Center, College of Arts, Tunghai University.
Presented Drama Class’s first public performance in the hall of the Central Taiwan Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Helped the General Education Center to offer beginning and intermediate Chinese classes for foreign students at Tunghai University.
Implemented online Teaching Evaluation Survey for all students.
Established the Teacher Evaluation Committee and implemented the first teacher evaluation.

Implemented Teaching Evaluation Survey for all students.
2009
Developed the Travelling Culture Classes and created specialized texts and teaching materials for these classes.
2008
Established connections with Beijing National Language University.
Hosted keynote speeches, a research camp, and an international conference on Chinese language education.
Established “Summer Blast Youth Language Camp”.
Established the “Seed Teacher Education System” to provide exceptional graduates from the Centre’s teacher-training program a place to develop their skills, and to improve the Centre’s career guidance for its graduates.

Drama classes established, putting real-life learning principles into practice.

Full-scale renovations of the classrooms and facilities, establishment of the computer teaching lab, and promotion of E-learning
1997
Expanded exchange programs with the US, Japan, and Korea, expanding the scope of the Centre.
Established 3 to 5-student classes.
Established 10-student classes for Indonesian students.
Developed native Taiwanese language classes.
Promoted the further education of our faculty, emphasizing lifelong learning and the unity of study and instruction.
In order to meet the Centre’s programming needs, teaching materials were written and published by Centre instructors.

Changed name from “Chinese Language and Culture Research Center” to “Chinese Language Center”.

Changed name from “Chinese Language Research Center” to “Chinese Language and Culture Research Center”.
1982
Encouraged the Government to establish “US-Canada Summer Camp”, giving overseas Chinese an opportunity to return to Taiwan for study.
Established exchange program with Massachusetts University, allowing students and instructors from both institutions to study abroad.
1981
Establishment of the first Chinese Instructor Qualification Program.
