Short-Term Study Programs

Foreign University Summer Program
The CLC not only accepts applications from individual students, but also offers 3-8 week language and culture study programs to groups of foreign students. The program is exciting and fast paced, and the content is tailored to the needs of the home institution. Weekends are filled with excursions to famous Taiwanese destinations. Currently the CLC runs programs with the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Puget Sound University, Japan’s St.Andrew's University, Okinawa University, Okinawa International University, Waseda University, Hokusei Gakuen University, and Konan University.
Course Content
1. Chinese Class
Students are split into classes according to ability. A small class / whole language approach is used. Extracurricular activities support in-class learning, for example: touring a traditional market, night market excursions, and museum trips, etc.
2. Travel Taiwan and learn Chinese – Humanities excursions
The weekends are used for travel that blends history, humanity, and leisure into excursions that are informative and exciting. This allows students to experience local Taiwanese culture for themselves. Through contact with Taiwanese from all corners of the island, students will know the warmth and hospitality that this island is famous for.
Cultural Experience Travel Group
In order to accommodate the needs of short term travel-study groups from sister schools (who generally come for 3 weeks), the CLC now offers the Cultural Experience Travel Group study experience (sample of student hand book) . Including the blending of Culture Classes with Humanities Excursions and customized teaching materials, the features of the program are as follows:
1. Teaching materials for life: textbooks have been prepared with practicality in mind, and help first-time visitors to Taiwan really understand and immediately participate in life in Taiwan .
2. Classroom activities support extracurricular cultural experiences: a wide variety of activities and small group exercises accompany the course content, and provide valuable cultural experiences.
3. Large class – small group tutorial format: from the head instructor, students will receive the main lessons and course content, and then in the tutorial sections students will practice small group exercises. Specialized instruction coupled with individual attention offers the student a lively and efficient study experience.
4. After-class tutoring: oftentimes, students from sister institutions have homework assigned by their home institutions. Tutors can help students with their own individual assignments outside of class hours.
